Adekunle Gold: I Was Born With Sickle Cell Disease

My battle with sickle cell – Singer Adekunle Gold Adekunle Kosoko, a Nigerian singer popularly known as Adekunle Gold, has revealed his struggle with sickle cell anemia. In a bombshell newsletter to fans on Friday, the ‘Sade’ crooner wrote in detail how the disease, compounded with his parents’ dire financial status, negatively impacted his childhood. He also narrated how he once suffered a painful crisis that made him plead to God to take his life. The newsletter read in part, “ It feels liberating to finally be able to share this part of my life with you, to finally be able to speak my truth. When I talk about how I struggled to get to where I am today, I need you to know that my struggle was real. “I was born with sickle cell disease. Buhari’s Inaction Threatens 2023 Election Activities As 20 RECs Retire

Activities towards the 2023 general elections are under threat of paralysis in at least 20 states as the resident electoral officers (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reach the end of their five-year tenures. The tenures of 11 of the RECs came to an end on July 6, nine others are due for retirement next month, while one quit in April to join partisan politics. Those already out include Orji Nkwachukwu (Anambra); Emeka Ononamadu (Enugu); Obo Effanga (Rivers); Chukwuemeka Ezeonu (Imo); Joseph Iloh (Abia) and Mutiu Agboke (Oyo). Others are James Apam (Kogi); Ibrahim Abdullahi (Bauchi); Umar Ibrahim (Gombe) Ahmed Makama (Taraba) and Hussaini Pai (Plateau). However, apart from Mr Pai who has served out his second and final term, the other 10 of these RECs have only served a term and can be re-appointed for a second term. I Regained Freedom After 104 Days In Captivity - Sadiq Ango Abdullahi

Kaduna-based publisher, Malam Tukur Mamu, disclosed this on Saturday. Mamu, who had earlier negotiated the release of 11 passengers, said the kidnappers have released seven more victims. Those released were identified as Muhammad Daiyabu Paki, Bosede Olurotimi, Abubakar Zubairu, Alhassan Sule, Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, Aliyu Usman and Muhammad Abuzar Afzal, a Pakistani. In a video released in May,  Abdullahi, who won PDP ticket for Kaduna legislative election while in captivity , had begged for the Federal Government’s intervention, saying most of the 62 abducted victims were sick. He had said: “We have been here for 62 days. Most of us here are sick and we are not in good condition. Everyday, the situation gets deteriorates. We are appealing to the Federal Government to come to our aid before we start losing our lives.” https...

Sub-license Channels, Court Orders Multichoice

The Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt has ordered leading entertainment company, MultiChoice, to sub-license some channels to Metro-digital, pursuant to the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission’s code. Justice Olabode Adegbehingbe in his judgment on Wednesday ruled that the lower court erred when it dismissed the suit of the Appellant (Metro-digital), when the appellant proved the existence of the dispute between itself and the first respondent (MultiChoice). Justice Adegbehingbe also urged the second respondent (NBC) to compel Multi-choice to follow the court order within 21 days.
